Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. In 1992, she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. She was a member of a panel for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled with Ronald Reagan many times to attend summits and discuss matters like and the Iran Contra controversy.
